Clearing Samsung Knox License Key in Workspace ONE UEM (80846)

Administrators can add a Knox Platform for Enterprise (KPE) Premium license key in Workspace ONE UEM Console Settings > Devices & Users > Android > Intelligent Hub Settings, which will be activated on Samsung devices to enable access to advanced device configurations and management capabilities.  This guide instructs how to properly remove the license key in the case that it is no longer used or needed in a particular Organization Group.

If the license key is not cleared properly, then various issues may occur.  Please take a note of the following:

• If the Knox License Key field is left blank, it will not be saved, and the console will continue to send the previously saved value.
• If the license key is expired or invalid, this will cause new enrollments to fail, and the device will factory reset in a Work Managed enrollment scenario.
• If the license key is removed from existing devices, the devices may be locked out and unusable, until either a valid license key is pushed, or the device is factory reset.
• If an invalid or expired license key is pushed to existing devices, the user may see looping toast messages stating that the Knox License activation failed.

In the case that a license key needs to be removed from the console, admins must follow the below procedure to remove the license key:
 

1. On the Intelligent Hub Settings page, scroll down to Samsung Knox > Knox License Key and click “Change.”
2. This field cannot be left blank – in order to clear the key, enter a dummy value, such as a blank space or “1234.”  Hub will only attempt to activate license keys that are properly formatted.
3. Save the settings

On existing Samsung devices, clearing the key may result in devices being locked out and unusable, so be sure to take any necessary precautions before making this change.  On newly enrolled devices, the Knox License will not be activated.
